All of these blue and white ginger jars represent a whole lot of "ballast" to me. Ballast is that "heavy material placed low in a vessel to improve its stability". I love the fact that blue and white ginger jars (pre 19th century) were heavy and were used as ballast during shipping. I love this, because, hand-made objets d'art were the thing that kept the whole ship afloat!!! making beauty with my hands also keeps me afloat during tough times.
