I judge a room, by how closesly it conforms to Eliza Doolittles song in My Fair Lady:
"All I want is a room somewhere, Far away from the cold night air, With One Enormous Chair..."
I mean adding a working fireplace is great, throwing in a Moroccan side table to hold a drink is also good...but does the room and the chair beckon me to sink, to settle, to be swaddled in it's coziness for an afternoon. Can I lose myself in a book or film there, because my creaturely needs are met...is this a good space FOR a human to inhabit? The opposite of this, is that space where it is amazing, it is impressive, but you can't actually imagine inserting yourself schlumpfy, imperfect self into the scene. Maybe, I feel most at home in places, and with things, that have a little wear and tear on them so that I, in my "velveteen rabbit" body can simply blend in.
